Congratulation Ryan and Kevin!

M Group’s Article!

We’re delighted to announce that M Group Highways Cambridgeshire won the Personal Impact category at the prestigious Heroes Awards (formerly the Highways Heroes Awards).

The awards recognise those who have gone above and beyond their duty, to help someone or improve a situation, either in the communities they work in or to unconditionally support fellow workers in their team.

Our award recognises the great work done in extremely challenging conditions on Mill Road Bridge, Cambridge.

In November 2024, work to install a bus gate on Mill Road was disrupted by protesters, which at their peak numbered approximately 35 people. For three nights, between 11 and 13 November, we were unable to carry out the works as a result of the protests. This hostility led to M Group schemes managers, operatives and supply chain supervisors facing a barrage of abuse, angry residents, threats and intimidation, as well as vandalism of the Automatic Number Plate Recognition cameras on site.

To resolve the situation and safely complete the installation of the bus gate, we worked out of hours, with a 24/7 rolling closure in collaboration with Cambridgeshire County Council and the police.

Oliver Brown, Construction Manager (Interim), M Group Highways Cambridgeshire, said: “This award recognises the professionalism and resilience of our team in the face of significant hostility, anger, and intimidation.

“Despite the extremely challenging conditions, the works were safely and successfully completed thanks to their fantastic efforts.”

Congratulations to all involved and special thanks to our supply chain partners involved in this from DJT Surfacing Ltd and Avanti (John Henry Group).
